Great Ashley Farm is the perfect B&B for walking, cycling & golfing. We have a secure store room for your bikes, walking boots and golf clubs, which has maps, basic bike maintenance kits and washing facilities for your bikes and boots. The farm is surrounded by peaceful, quiet country lanes. You’ll be sure to meet many other walkers, runners, cyclist and horse riders filling their lungs with fresh air.

Great Ashley Farm is surrounded by public footpaths, or you can walk the Kennet and Avon canal from Bradford-on-Avon, Limpley Stoke or Avoncliffe, or take a stroll along the River Avon – you’re sure to see some wonderful wildlife en route!

Much of Wiltshire is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and one of the best ways to explore is on foot. Prehistoric sites such as Stonehenge and Avebury, and the famous White Horse figures that have been cut into the hillsides exposing the chalk beneath, provide examples of the importance to Wiltshire of its wonderful landscape.

Wiltshire has more than 8,200 paths for walkers and cyclists to explore. Walking and cycling in Wiltshire’s peaceful, glorious countryside will show you rural England at its very best.

From Great Ashley Farm B&B you can cycle for miles upon miles down the quiet, safe country lanes surrounding the farm and beyond! Helen is a keen cyclist and knows all the great place to stop for cake and coffee & always happy to help plan a route on road, hybrid & mountain bike or just offer a pump. For the adventurous there’s mountain-biking around Brownes Folly, or you can head down to Avoncliff, with it’s cycle friendly cafe and pub. You can join the Kennet and Avon Canal at Bradford on Avon, and from there head into Bath along the pan flat tow-path. Or how about heading towards the Caen Hill Locks at Devizes for more of a leg-stretcher?

Wiltshire Cycleway

The Wiltshire cycle way is 160 miles long, however if you don’t fancy cycling the whole distance then cross county routes are provided along The Kennet and Avon Canal, through the Vale of Pewsey or down the Wylye Valley.

A section of the cycleway runs very close to Great Ashley Farm making it an ideal place to stay (being located only a few hundred metres away from the cycle route). 

Two Tunnels into Bath

For a great ride, the Bath Two Tunnels Circuit is a 13 mile circular route taking in the iconic Bath Two Tunnels featuring an extraordinary audio-visual installation as you pass through. The Combe Down Tunnel, at an impressive 1672 metres, is just over one mile, and is the UK’s and possibly Europe’s longest cycle and walking tunnel.

CUMBERWELL GOLF COURSE

Less than a mile away is an Adrian Stiff designed 27 hole course, Cumberwell Park, broken down to 3 very different 9’s set amongst a perfect mixture of rolling countryside, tranquil woodland and challenging water features. The first 9, the red loop is the parkland course. Undulating parkland with streams and rolling fairways. The yellow loop, the woodland course, a mature wooded area with established trees and streams.The blue loop, the Lakeland course, is punctuated with challenging lakes and water holes.

All greens have been built to USGA specification; the tees are built with sand based root zone mix, ensuring that temporary tees and greens are not required during Winter months.

Course Director Marc Haring and his team of dedicated Green staff take tremendous pride in their work and this is reflected in the courses presentation.

The clubs facilities continue to develop and in addition to the course, a ten-acre practice ground, target greens, bunkers, putting greens and state of the art teaching facilities are all available for visitors to use.

Dundas to Bradford on Avon Canal Ride

Starting at the Dundas Aqueduct Visitor Centre, this gentle route follows the Kennet & Avon Canal towpath all the way to Bradford on Avon. It’s around 8 to 9 miles for a round trip and is perfect for beginners or those hiring bikes locally.
