Bath Comedy Festival 29/03/2013 to 07/04/2013

comedy festival

Now in its fifth year, Bath Comedy Festival 2013 boasts the biggest line-up yet, with more shows and more performers taking part than ever before.

Director Nick Steel said: “This is going to be another great year! Now, I’ve nothing against stadium type shows, but what makes this Festival special is its unique events and the ability to deliver the intimate experience of quality performances in small to medium sized venues, and I’ve tried hard to programme the core events as much as possible along these lines.

“There has been an encouraging amount of applications to take part and more shows are still being submitted. A bigger variety of venues are being used this year, some of which have never been used for comedy before.”

Headliners this year include festival stalwart, veteran performer and broadcaster Arthur Smith who will be hosting one of the biggest shows of the Festival at Bath Rugby Clubhouse, and German Comedy Ambassador Henning Wehn is back with a brand new show.

The Saxon town of Bradford-on-Avon less than 2 miles away with the Kennet and Avon canal running through it, its Tithe Barn, Saxon Church, lovely quaint shops, cobbled streets and great places to eat! The beautiful village of Castle Combe is a 30 minute drive from us and known to be one of the most quintessential villages in the UK – also famed for the filming of the original Dr. Dolittle with Rex Harrison and the more recent filming of War Horse.

We have endless NT Properties, Great Chalfield Manor, The Courts at Holt and Lacock Abbey (famed for the filming of Pride and Prejudice) and Westwood Manor. We are very fortunate to be on the edge of The Cotswolds and in the opposite direction is Stonehenge, Salisbury, Longleat, Glastonbury and Wells with it’s magnificent Cathedral.

Fifty Fabulous Frocks at The Bath Fashion Museum

Great excitement in Bath this week as The Fashion Museum in Bath celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2013 with a special display that will showcase 50 of its most glamorous dresses with the wow factor! The Fashion Museum in Bath has been named as one of the top ten of its kind in the world.

The exhibition will include a gorgeous gold embroidered Georgian court dress and a delicate 1870s gauze bustle day dress edged with purple fringing and redolent of the paintings of Tissot alongside a slinky jersey evening dress by Ossie Clark and a classic chic Chanel suit. will feature the iconic and influential names of 20th century couture – Schiaparelli, Poiret, Vionnet, Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent – as well as today’s most desired fashion designers and brands – Erdem, Burberry, John Rocha. This display will show both the richness of the museum collection as well as key moments in fashion history that continue to provide inspiration for modern day designers along with TV and film makers – think Downton Abbey, The Great Gatsby and Anna Karenina.

The display will also include delightfully curious pieces from the Fashion Museum’s world-class collection of original objects, such as a Champagne Dress worn at a fancy dress party in Edwardian times. And men will not be forgotten, from an ornately embroidered man’s coat from the early 18th century through to a pair of bondage trousers by Dame Vivienne Westwood, Queen of Punk.

The Fashion Museum was founded as the Museum of Costume by Doris Langley Moore, a writer, costume designer and passionate collector of historic dress. The museum came to the Assembly Rooms in Bath in 1963 and has for the last fifty years been guided by Mrs Langley Moore’s founding principles of collecting and presenting examples of historic and contemporary dress that show the very best of fashion and style.

Great Ashley Farm in the snow….

A chilli start to the day at Great Ashley Farm this morning – but the fires are lit and the AGA is working very hard.  The cows are contently eating their way through even more silage and the horses have been put out to play in the snow having been kept in all day yesterday.  They won’t be out for too long, just enough time for them to stretch their legs are there hooves fill with snow which ends up as snow balls ……  The dogs have been out playing in the snow – poor Cabbage has snow up to her shoulders but she loves it.
